- For Booking.com Review:⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 11 out of 10 – A Standout in Luxury HospitalityFrom the moment we arrived, 137 Pillars House set a new benchmark for hospitality. Greeted personally by the effervescent Anne Arrowsmith (GM) and given a seamless introduction to the resort by Toto (Head Butler), we immediately felt like esteemed guests in an exclusive sanctuary. The suite was nothing short of magnificent – a flawless blend of historic charm and modern luxury, with meticulous attention to detail in every corner. The ambience? Picture a tranquil retreat where time slows, and every element is designed to indulge the senses. But what truly elevates this property is its people. Each and every staff member embodies the essence of genuine Thai hospitality – as if welcoming you into their own home, with warmth, grace, and an intuitive understanding of your every need.Often, as the day’s warmth lingered in the air, I found myself capturing the day’s reflections in my journal on the verandah of The Borneo House, a 130-year-old colonial gem, its French shutter doors wide open to the night. A perfectly chilled Hemingway Daiquiri in hand—sharp with white rum, fresh lime, and the faintest whisper of Heering—I leaned back, taking in the scent of aged teak and tropical blooms as a soft breeze stirred through the towering India Rubber trees. There’s something about this place—so rich in history, so effortlessly timeless—that makes the world slow down. And for a fleeting moment, as ink met paper, I could sense Hemingway himself in the corner—watching, absorbing, contemplating. As someone who has spent decades in luxury hospitality, I can confidently say that 137 Pillars House is in a league of its own. Ms. Arrowsmith, take a bow! You and your team have created an experience that is flawless, memorable, and truly world-class.A must-stay for discerning travellers who appreciate exquisite service, refined elegance, and the art of hospitality—rooted in effortless anticipation.
Cons -
- I was given a room next to the service area so there were staff members constantly walking by my patio where I could see them and they could see me. They were also doing major construction next door to my room so there was heavy metal noises all day.
- We should have asked about the cost of laundry before giving our clothes. We were charged about 6 times what we paid elsewhere. They gave us a discount after I found out, but I was not happy.
- It comes with the plants and water, but a bit more mozzie mngt would've been great.

The rooms are spacious and luxurious. The service is exceptional, from a warm friendly and efficient team. The breakfast was delicious with a wide range of fruit, cheese, danishes, dumplings, noodles, and a terrific egg station. Dinner at Palette was amazing.
Everything was perfect! Anne the GM was friendly and engaging and greeted every guest every single day! Staff anticipated our needs and remembered our preference, the command of English was good! All well trained!
I loved the decor, the small size and the staff were so helpful and super friendly. I would most def book again to stay here next time. It felt like home away from home
lovely location and grounds. very green. very large rooms
It comes with the plants and water, but a bit more mozzie mngt would've been great.
the grounds are spectacularthe rooms conmfotable
the food is mediocre, the staff is decent but not top
Spacious room, comfortable bed, excellent concierge and great customer service/support. The restaurant was very good for evening meals although breakfast was not great. The cocktail bar with the live pianist was fantastic.
The blinds are not blackout and lights on pathways shine in, however, staff attached sheets to windows when informed. The pool area was dirty and uninspiring. A wedding reception and the guests took over the area on one day and it was mayhem! Hotel Guests had nowhere to sit and couldn’t use the facilities. This was terrible management.
the room was nicely decorated, staff was nice (Ray the butler was amazing)
too expensive when you compare with other hotels and what you get. breakfast variety is a shame, staff is not properly trained (it started when we arrived with our luggage and they asked what could they do for us…we weren’t told a private event was held in the garden, two staff came to tell us different things our room was ready and a few minutes later it was not, we’ve been asked if we wanted another cocktail when we just received one, received our drinks while almost finished with breakfast…) lights are not the same in the garden and agressive for your eyes. that’s too bad because trees are not shown enough, it’s just bad lighting. the garden/lounge chairs are bad quality, same for pool loungers. some rooms patios views are in the common area. the stairs in front of the old house are hideous. you have sofas available but they are not well exposed. the exterior design just doesn’t make sense. we had a previous stay at Raya Heritage hotel and it was exceptional on every aspect and for almost half the price.
the best 5star Hotel in Chiang Mai. Very nice location with an outstanding park & history
The service staff are lovely although sometimes struggle with understanding english and interpreting requests
Th lighting in the room was not bright enough and the air con not always cool enough. It's a little too far from town for kids to walk to main attractions
Design of the room. Tree is the garden looks great and Spirituality.
Food not tasty.Stuff in front of desk not professional( check in and check out not professional)
Beautiful property and great ambiance and food! Location is close to the airport.
Such a nice place to enjoy traditional Thai style while expreincing high quality service.
Everything was perfect the Impeccable attention to detail. I love the rooms the rooms are comfortable and beautifully done. The service is fantastic every staff member goes above and beyond to ensure our stay was perfect.
I can't think of anything I did not like about the resort.
